“Pakistani students: the new online procedure for applying for a study visa in Germany starts in January 2025”.
What’s Happening?
The German Embassy in Islamabad has introduced a new process for applying for student visas, effective 20 January 2025. At the same time, they are experiencing technical delays because many people are submitting incomplete applications.
📌 What Has Changed?
🔁 Old System (Before 20 Jan 2025):
- Applicants registered for appointments using the old system.
- They had to check the required document list manually on the website.
- All documents were brought physically to the embassy on the day of the appointment.
✅ New System (After 20 Jan 2025):
- Now, all registrations must go through the Federal Foreign Office’s Consular Services Portal.
- The portal uses a step-by-step questionnaire to generate a personalized document list.
- Applicants must upload digital scans of documents online.
- The embassy team will pre-checkthe uploads before approving an appointment.
- Only complete applications will be placed on the waiting list.
- The system will guide how to organize and present documents at the final appointment.
📖 Example to Understand
In the previous process, many applicants submitted incomplete paperwork and only found out what was missing on the day of the appointment. This caused delays, rejections, and repeated visits to the embassy.
Under the new system, applicants upload everything online first. If any document is missing, they are informed early. Only after a complete review are they allowed to book an appointment — which saves time for everyone and makes the process more efficient.
🎯 Impact on Pakistani Students

- Applicants must be very careful when uploading documents.
- Incomplete applications that get a warning will be cancelled.
- Those unfamiliar with online systems may need technical support or guidance.
- Pre-checks are currently delayed, taking more than 10 days.
