U.S. Government Reverses Student Visa Terminations (April 2025)

“U.S. Government Reverses Student Visa Terminations (April 2025)”

📢 What Happened:

An international student in the U.S. was legally studying on an F-1 visa. One day, they got a shocking notice: their visa was terminated, and their SEVIS record (which tracks their student status) was marked inactive.

They had no serious issues — maybe a small mistake, or sometimes no clear reason at all. Suddenly, they were at risk of being deported, even though they were still attending college.

This same thing happened to over 1,200 students across the U.S.
⚖️ What Changed:

The students challenged these actions in U.S. courts. Judges looked into the cases and said these terminations were unfair.
The government was told to restore their status, at least temporarily.

Now, the U.S. government has announced:

  • It will reverse the termination of these students’ visa records.
  • Their SEVIS records will be made active again.
  • ICE will not cancel their visa just because of automatic alerts from a background system (like NCIC).
  • A new policy is being developed to avoid unfair treatment in the future.

🧾 Example:

A student studying at a university in the U.S. submitted all their papers, attended classes, and followed the rules.
But one day, they learned their visa was revoked. They didn’t know why.
They had to stop going to class and feared being deported.
After filing a court case, the judge said their rights were violated.
Now, their student status has been reactivated, and they can continue studying without fear.
