New Rule for Onshore Student Visa Applications from 2025 Onwards

New Rule for Onshore Student Visa Applications from 2025 Onwards”

🛑 What Changed?

From 1 January 2025, if you are applying for a student visa from inside Australia, you must include a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) in your application.

  • Before: A Letter of Offer from a university/college was enough to apply.
  • Now: Only a CoE is accepted — otherwise, your application will be invalid.

🧾What is a CoE?

A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is a document issued after you accept the offer and pay tuition fees. It proves you’re officially enrolled in a course.

⚠️ What Happens If You Apply Without a CoE?

  • Your visa application will be considered invalid
  • Immigration will not assess your application
  • You won’t get a Bridging Visa, meaning you could become unlawful if your current visa expires
  • You may need to leave Australia immediately or explore other visa options

📌 Example:

A student is currently in Australia on a visitor visa and wants to stay for studies. They get a Letter of Offer from a college and try to apply for a student visa without a CoE.

  • ❌Because there’s no CoE, the application is rejected as invalid.
  • ❌ No Bridging Visa is granted.
  • ❗The student must either leave Australia or get a CoE quickly and reapply, if time allows.

Tips for Students Applying from Inside Australia:

  • Get your CoE before applying for a student visa.
  • Don’t wait until your current visa is about to expire.
  • Check if you’re eligible to apply for a student visa from within Australia under the latest rules.
