“New Rule for Onshore Student Visa Applications from 2025 Onwards”
đ What Changed?
From 1 January 2025, if you are applying for a student visa from inside Australia, you must include a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) in your application.
- Before: A Letter of Offer from a university/college was enough to apply.
- Now: Only a CoE is accepted â otherwise, your application will be invalid.
đ§žWhat is a CoE?
A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is a document issued after you accept the offer and pay tuition fees. It proves you’re officially enrolled in a course.
â ď¸ What Happens If You Apply Without a CoE?
- Your visa application will be considered invalid
- Immigration will not assess your application
- You wonât get a Bridging Visa, meaning you could become unlawful if your current visa expires
- You may need to leave Australia immediately or explore other visa options
đ Example:
A student is currently in Australia on a visitor visa and wants to stay for studies. They get a Letter of Offer from a college and try to apply for a student visa without a CoE.
- âBecause thereâs no CoE, the application is rejected as invalid.
- â No Bridging Visa is granted.
- âThe student must either leave Australia or get a CoE quickly and reapply, if time allows.
â Tips for Students Applying from Inside Australia:
- Get your CoE before applying for a student visa.
- Donât wait until your current visa is about to expire.
- Check if youâre eligible to apply for a student visa from within Australia under the latest rules.
